What Tdap Helps Prevent
- ➜
Tetanus (T) – Enters through cuts or wounds; causes painful muscle stiffening and can lead to serious problems (trouble swallowing/breathing) or death.
- ➜
Diphtheria (D) – Spreads person-to-person; can cause breathing difficulty, heart failure, paralysis, or death.
- ➜
Pertussis (aP) – “Whooping cough”; causes severe, uncontrollable coughing that makes it hard to breathe, eat, or drink. Very serious in babies and young children (risk of pneumonia, convulsions, brain damage, or death). In teens and adults it can cause weight loss, loss of bladder control, fainting, and even rib fractures from intense coughing.
