Prevnar 20 Vaccine

Prevnar 20 won’t give you pneumococcal pneumonia because Prevnar 20 does not contain live bacteria.

There are two types of pneumococcal vaccines—polysaccharides and conjugates. Prevnar 20 is a conjugate vaccine. Conjugate vaccines work by combining proteins with small pieces of inactive pneumococcal bacteria to help activate the immune system. Your body is able to recognize the bacteria without getting you sick. This process helps your immune system make antibodies that can help protect you from 20 strains of the bacteria that cause pneumococcal pneumonia.

Prevnar 20 helps protect against more strains of the bacteria that cause pneumococcal pneumonia than any other pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.

WHO IS AT RISK OF GETTING SHINGLES?

If you’re one of the 99% of adults over 50 years old who have had chickenpox, the virus that causes shingles is inside your body and can reactivate at any time. 1 in every 3 people in the US will get shingles in their lifetime. No matter how healthy you feel, your immune system declines as you age, and that puts you at an increased risk...
